Hillian was at  one time a  senior of  ficer in O xford and  was in fact Morse's boss. He was also writing a book a bout his mo st memorable cases, inc luding o ne about th e unsolved death of an 8-year-old girl some 18 years ago. The suspect  in that  case, F rederick Redpath, was at Hill ian's house the day he died and that chapter from the manuscript is missing . There a  re other suspe cts however, inclu ding Hillian's ghost writer who will  now receive al  l of the book's royalti  es; a ha ndyman who was working  on the property; and Redpath's daughter, who knew the  little gi rl wh o was killed all those years bef ore.
