Fear of some unknown danger br eaks out in the vill age,  which is cut off from the surro unding world. Zdenuk Ma hler, who would l ater work on Forman's examinatio n Mozart   Amadeus, wo rked on the script.　　The director Evald Sc horm (1929-1988) was one of the most original me mbers of the Czech "New  Wave".  During t he &q uot;nor malization" era, Schorm spen t many years una ble to  direct. His last film, Killing with Kindn ess (1988) wa s only  made in th e twilight years of Communism. Du ring that period whe n he was unable to direct films  , he b  ecame an ou tstanding stage d irec tor.
