Geo rge Peppard plays the heel-hero , who fou nds an airline company in the 19 20s and buys a mo vie st udio in the 1930s, crushing friends and mistresses along the way. The high chee se factor is aided b y the good-time cast Carroll Ba ker as Peppard's hot step mom, B ob Cummi ngs (quit e funny) as a cynica l age nt, and Elizabeth Ashley, who married P eppard, in her debut -un characteristically, as a good girl. One sad note is Alan Ladd, l ooking and sounding very end-of-the-line in h is fina l role, as a man' s man cowboy star.
