It' s suc  h a thrill to now b e playing one of hi s brilliant characters. 　　"Dir   k is a chaot ic, anarchic force of na ture with  a totally unique take on th e world. He  is described as 'l  azy, untidy, dismissive and unreliab le'. I&  #39;ve  abso lutely no idea why they thought I'd be rig ht for the  role.&qu ot;　　The Dirk Gently book s have formed the basis of a play and a BB C Radio 4 series bu t have nev er before been filme  d for TV.　　 Adams 's agent, Ed Victor, said: "F or all the   years I represented the late, great Doug las Ada ms, the most substantial frustrat ion for both of us w as that we could n't get films made ei ther of Hitchhi ker or Dirk. 　　&qu ot;Douglas once said  , memorably, that ' gett ing a film  made in Hollywoo d was like  trying to cook a steak by having a bun ch of people  come   into the room and breathe on it'. Well, we di d eventually ge t a fi lm made in Ho  llywood o  f Hitchhiker and, tr agically,  Douglas didn't live to  see it.
