She hires M iss Yang (Ahn So-youn g), Miss Hong (Lee  Hye -young),  and Se-y oung  (Jeon Se-young) through the employmen t age ncy. Miss Yan g and Mi  ss Hong, who are wel  l experienced i n this  type  of business, are   used to accepting propositions from customers. B  ut Se- young, who is dating a college student named Min-s u, rejects  all reque  sts for se xual favors. When  Min-su profe  sses to having pr oblems wit  h his tuiti  on a nd fina nces, S  e-young reassures him that she will procure the necessar y funds for him. When the bar 's clientele begins to dwind le because  of Se-young, Ji-suk repri mands her severely. Se- young develops  a clos  e relationsh ip with a  Captai n Pak and  even allows him to sleep  with he r. She asks Captain Pak to find Min-s u em ployment on a b oat, but w hen Min-su comes to Sokcho for his new job, he sees how Se-young has been making  her living. Shocked, he t urns his back  on the job and l  eaves.  When he ev entual ly re turns to So kcho, he scathingly denounces Se-young's morali  ty and sever s their re lationship. Decades  ago, Ji- suk had stumbled into the bar business in a desperate ef fort to support h er husband, who was serving time in prison; she later left hi m voluntarily ou t of shame a nd moral degra dation. Concerned that  Se-young will end up  with the sa me fate, Ji-suk asks Min-su  to meet with her. She begs  him  not  to abandon Se-young, but he flatly refuses.
