When Min-su professes to having problems with his tuition and finances, Se-young r eassur es him tha t she will pro cure t he ne cessary funds for him. When the bar's clientele b egins t o dwindle because of Se-y oung, Ji-suk reprimands her severely. Se-y oung de velops a close relationship with a Captain Pak and even all ows him to sle ep with her. She asks Capt ain Pak to find Min- su employ ment on a boat, but when Min-su comes to Sokcho for his new job, he se es how Se-young h as b een making her living. Shocked , he turns his back on the j ob and leaves. When h e event uall y returns to Sokcho, he scat hingly denounces Se -young 's morality and sever s their rel ationship. Decade s ago, J i-suk had stumbled into t he bar business in a desp erate ef fort to suppor t her husband, who w as se rving tim e in pr ison; she late r left h im volun tarily out of shame an d moral de gradation.
