I';ve absolutely no idea why they thought I'd be right f or the role.";　　The Dirk Gently   books have forme d the bas is of a pla y an d a BBC  Radio 4 se ries but have never b efore been filmed for TV.　　Adams's agent, Ed Victor, said:  "For all   the years I represented th  e late, g reat Dougla  s Adams, the  most substantial frustration for bo th of us was that we co uldn 9;t get films made eithe r of Hitchhiker or Dirk.　　"Do uglas once  said, memor ably, that 'getting a film  made in H ollywood was like trying to cook a steak by hav ing a bunch of people come into the room  and breathe on it'. We ll, we did eventually get a  film made  in Hollywood of Hitchhiker and,  tragically, Douglas didn';t live t o see it.
