Knife of Ice came when the gi allo boom was at its hottes t and the result is convincing. Technically the film is s uperb, containing great cinem atography in the begi nning when we learn about the m ain char acter's trauma towa rds trains. From this point on, Lenzi show s us his abi lity to benefit t he widescreen and, fo r example, t he bicycle r ide near t he forest is genuinely bea utiful! This sce ne also shows Len zi's ab ility to build suspense, very slowly but meaning fully . After all, there a ren't so man y murders in the w hole film, only the suspense c irculating a roun d the murd erer's identity. One s uspect is a devil worshipper which brings new aspects t o the m yste ry. Sinc e the fin al scene tak es place in a church, one can wond er i f Lenzi wanted to comment on somethin g, may be the hypocrit ical morale of chur ch an d superstition. The main charact er (Carrol Baker) is mute which deman ds a lo t from her face and eyes. The act ress works very well, giving us a believable performa nce circulat ing around the emotions of fear and menta l pain. The other act ors are good, too. The finally, however, may not give too positive a sig ht about female sex sinc e they all are e xpressed rather ne gativel y in th e film, one w ay or ano ther.
