Why f  or so many ye ars,  seemingly since it 's release i n 1933, this  film  vanished  from t he face of the earth. After see  ing it , courtes y of the efforts of  Mr. Wade William s Co., I'm still  puzzled, but I have a theor y. In 1933, the cod e was enacted that pretty much took ca re o f sex a  nd violence in Hol  lywood . While not an expli  cit film by any means, Deluge does deal fairly frank ly wit h sexuali ty, lust an d rape.  I wond er if RKO  discovered they  had a  film th  at they could not re-release, much like the fa bled lost  Warner Bros . comed y Convention City. It's a shame for, while it is a dated film, I find it quite uniqu e and surprising for  it' s era and a fairly successful   atte mpt to create something different in an era when films w ere already becoming cookie cutt er by-products of the s   tudio machine (not th  at many of those cookies aren' t ta sty, mind you). An  d even though the only available copy at this   writing is dubbed  into Italian, I d on't find that a hinderance.
