Mangan said: "I've been a fan of Douglas Adams ever since the Hi tchhiker';s radio series which I used to record as a ch ild and lis ten to over and over again in m y bedro om. It's such a t hrill to now be play ing one of his b rilliant characters. &q uot;Dirk is a chaot ic, anarchic force of n ature with a totally unique take on the world . He is descri bed as &# 39;lazy, unt idy, dismissive and unreliable'. I've absolutely no idea why they thought I'd be right for the role.& quot; The Dirk Gently books have formed the basis of a play and a BBC Radio 4 series but have never before been film ed for TV.
